Claressa Shields, ringside for Lauren Price’s most recent fight, is eager to welcome the Welsh fighter to America for a middleweight bout.

The 31-year-old southpaw advanced her career to 10 wins (2 KOs), remaining undefeated, with her lopsided, 10-round win over Stephanie Pineiro Aquino at Cardiff International Arena, not far from her birthplace in Newport. The win further solidifies a burgeoning career as she, last year, trounced Natasha Jonas, too, as well as Jessica McCaskill the year before.

Her greatest test, though, may lay ahead. And it’s all because the self-proclaimed GWOAT, Shields, marveled at Price’s performance and wants dibs on a future fight against her trans-Atlantic foe.

Shields is her country’s last Olympic gold medal winner and America’s greatest heavyweight right now, both inside and outside the women’s bracket. She last fought in February, when she outpointed Franchon Crews-Dezurn in their rematch, and is looking at opponents across multiple weight classes — Price is one of a number of possible options.

Deontay Wilder’s triumph over Derek Chisora means a long-awaited showdown with Anthony Joshua could be back on the cards. Now, super-middleweight legend Carl Froch has offered his thoughts on the proposed clash.

In a wild fight, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ did enough to claim a split-decision victory over Chisora, handing the British veteran a first career defeat since 2022 and winning on points for the first time since 2015.

As a result, Wilder is expected to benefit from Chisora’s #2 position with the IBF and the Alabama powerhouse may be within touching distance of a shot at becoming a two-time world champion.

The American also appears keen on a lucrative affair against long-term rival Joshua, and fans are already debating how it would play out years after it was first discussed.

Anthony Joshua

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Hall of Fame inductee Froch said that he is not convinced that Joshua possesses the confidence to take on Wilder.

“Eddie Hearn will be telling him [Joshua] that that’s the fight, because he is right, Eddie knows how to make money, he is a businessman and he is a top promoter. He will be saying, ‘look, Deontay Wilder is the fight for you’.

“He is still a big name, he has now come off the back of a win against Chisora, so he is fresh in the mind of everybody, but I don’t know if AJ believes that he can beat Deontay Wilder.

“Maybe he does, maybe he wants to come back and maybe he wants to fight again. But, I think if Deontay Wilder throws a couple of meaningful right hands and connects on AJ’s chin, then the fight is over. AJ will be knocked out.

“He has got to fight confident in that fight. He has got to get behind the jab and he has got to put shots together. Wilder looks like he can still tee up and load up with that right uppercut and that right hand – if he connects on AJ’s chin, it could be game over.”

Joshua is expected to return to the ring in late summer, with the top dogs of his era, Wilder and Tyson Fury, once again being the demanded dance partners for the two-time heavyweight ruler.

Following his December retirement, Terence Crawford continues to keep a keen eye on the boxing landscape, and the five-division world champion has named the three fights which he would most like to see during the remainder of 2026.

Crawford hung up the gloves following a legendary win over Canelo Alvarez, where he became a three-division undisputed world champion by adding all four 168lb titles to his collection. Since his retirement, those belts have become fragmented and a comeback appears to be of no interest.

Although, whilst super-middleweight contenders jostle for his old belts, fighters across other divisions are now battling one another in the pound-for-pound rankings following Crawford’s retirement – with ‘Bud’ deemed by many to have been the pound-for-pound number one.

Terence Crawford

Speaking with Dani Pirello, Crawford highlighted the three potential bouts which he wishes to see, all of which could have an impact on those pound-for-pound ratings.

“It is tough to say because there are so many big fights to be made. I would love to see Keyshawn Davis versus Devin Haney. I would love to see ‘Bam’ [Jesse Rodriguez] versus [Naoya] Inoue and I would love to see Shakur [Stevenson] versus [Gervonta] ‘Tank’ Davis.”

Whilst Davis had been in hot pursuit of WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney, the latter appears to have his mind set on unifications with his fellow titleholders at 147lbs.

As a result, it looks as if Davis has moved on from those plans, with a grudge match rematch against Nahir Albright instead being pencilled in for Saturday, May 16, in Norfolk.

Gervonta Davis is yet to return from legal trouble, and it is unclear when he will next step through the ropes, with a rumoured summer return against Isaac Cruz not yet materialising. Shakur Stevenson will keep busy regardless, now in possession of the WBO belt at 140lbs.

Naoya Inoue has a historic showdown against Junto Nakatani coming up next month. Whether or Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez decides to move up for the challenge in the aftermath remains to be seen.

Jaden Ivey’sbeen under fire for an Instagram Live rant in which he criticized the NBA’s involvement in Pride Month. It was later discovered that he had a habit of trying to preach his Catholicism to his Chicago Bulls teammates, which led to them dismissing him for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

The Fumble cohosts Samaria Terry and Ridney Rikai dig into an issue larger than Ivey’s anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment, and that he might actually be suffering from mental health issues.

“He appears to be quite manic,” Rodney begins. “And there’s certain signs and symptoms that take place before we see somebody go full Delonte West or full Kyle Singler, who used to play for the Duke Blue Devils. I think that he is displaying preliminary stages of some long-term mental health issues. I’m not a mental health expert, but I can see there’s something there. So I have to have a level of empathy and not hearken too much on the words that he said and try to figure out what’s at the core of him.”

Another athlete dealing with damning accusations is Gervonta “Tank” Davis, after footage surfaced of him pushing his ex-girlfriend down the stairs of a Miami strip club.

Davis has been arrested for assault before, and Rodney thinks the only way he might be able to get back on track is to serve some prison time. Samaria is more concerned with women who date him, constantly putting themselves in harm’s way despite knowing all of the prior allegations.

“The Yelp reviews are there, right? We’ve seen it,” Samaria said. “We’ve seen videos of it. We’ve seen all of the affidavits and the court cases. Why are you still dating somebody like that? Why are you still allowing somebody like that to get close to you? I don’t know if you think that that’s not going to happen to you, but it probably will.”

Unbeaten Welsh boxer Lauren Price is expected to return to the ring this summer ahead of a highly anticipated two-fight deal against American Olympic champion Claressa Shields, promoter Ben Shalom has confirmed on Monday.

Price, 31, extended her flawless professional record to 10-0 with a unanimous points victory over Stephanie Pineiro at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff on Saturday.

She is slated to take on an as-yet unnamed opponent in August, potentially in her hometown, before a blockbuster double-header with Shields. Shields was ringside for Price’s win over Pineiro, signalling her interest in the upcoming bout.

Shalom revealed the pair could clash once in the United States and again in the UK, with venues such as Cardiff City Stadium or Cardiff Castle being considered for a June 2027 showdown.

“Once in the US, and then hopefully once where we can come to either Cardiff City Stadium or (Cardiff) castle and do that in June next year,” Shalom said.

“She’s selling out that (Utilita) arena too fast. She needs somewhere bigger.”

The promoter confirmed the fights would likely take place at middleweight, describing it as “Lauren’s most natural weight” and a category where Shields has produced her best work.

“It’s a perfect match for both of them,” Shalom added.

Reflecting on Cardiff’s support for Price, Shalom, who first visited the city for Chris Eubank Jr’s points win over Liam Williams in February 2022, praised the Welsh fans.

“There’s nowhere like it in British boxing. Lauren’s fanbase is incredible, it made for a very special night,” he said.

With her unbeaten record intact and major showdowns on the horizon, Lauren Price is set to remain a leading figure in British boxing.

Former US PGA champion Jason Day says Tiger Woods was “a little bit selfish” to drive under the influence and “put other people in harm’s way”.

Woods, 50, was arrested and charged after clipping a truck and rolling his car near his home in Florida last month. The 15-time major champion, who was also charged with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, was found with two white pills in his pocket, which were identified as hydrocodone – an opioid used to treat pain. He submitted a written plea of not guilty via his lawyers last week and was granted permission by a judge to seek treatment overseas.

READ MORESee why Tiger Woods declines US Ryder Cup captain role in 2027Tiger WoodsWhile Australian Day criticized Woods’ actions, the 38-year-old said he also has sympathy for him. “He was my hero – he is my hero,” said Day, who is preparing to take part in the Masters, which starts on Thursday.”The reason why I play golf is because of this tournament and Tiger.” It’s hard to see him go through what he’s going through, and especially under the microscope… it must be hard to be who he is and have everything, everyone look on, kind of down on him.

“The only thing that I don’t understand is that it’s a little bit selfish of him to drive and put other people in harm’s way, as well. “But when you’re the player that he was and how strong-willed he is, he thinks he can do almost anything, and that’s probably why he’s probably driving and a little bit under the influence.”

In the arrest affidavit, an officer wrote Woods was “sweating profusely”, his pupils were “extremely dilated” and his movements were “lethargic and slow”.

Five-time Masters champion Woods, whose last victory at Augusta came in 2019, will not be at Augusta National for the season’s first major, and he has also turned down the role of United States Ryder Cup captain next year in Ireland.

For the second year running, there is something of a question mark hanging over Scottie Scheffler heading into The Masters.

The world number one has won on the PGA Tour this season. However, his form in recent weeks has been underwhelming by his incredible standards.

Scheffler also withdrew from the Texas Children’s Houston Open due to the birth of his second child. With that, his most recent result remains his tied for 22nd finish at The Players Championship.

Scottie Scheffler

So it is incredibly difficult to know what to expect from Scheffler at Augusta National over the coming days.

Of course, Scottie Scheffler has won The Masters twice already. Meanwhile, he finished fourth 12 months ago despite looking to be nowhere near his best.

That start to his 2025 season could largely be put down to a hand injury. This year, however, there have been no obvious signs that Scheffler is dealing with any sort of issue, particularly given that he won The American Express in his first start.

Speaking on The Smylie Show ahead of Thursday’s opening round, Smylie Kaufman insisted that he would not be at all shocked to see Scheffler in the mix at Augusta National.

Scottie Scheffler

However, he did express some concern about his recent form.

“I still feel very good about Scottie this week. It’s probably in the eight [out of 10] range. I’m not quite at the nine or 10 which I would be at for Scottie. But I think when you look at Scottie Scheffler this season and you look at all of his statistics, you’ll notice that the approach stats are down. He’s currently strokes gained this season 82nd approach. This is a guy who’s lived in the top three over the last three years strokes gained approach. It’s been his superpower,” he said.

The controversial referee who oversaw Deontay Wilder’s win over Derek Chisora will not be punished for his at times comical performance on Saturday night.

Wilder called for Mark Bates to be banned from refereeing after allowing Chisora’s coach to run in the ring during round one of their fight at The O2 Arena in London. The retiring heavyweight was also literally propped up by another trainer when he was dropped in the eighth, and used the ropes to get back up.

However, the British Boxing Board of Control are not going to proceed with any sort of sanctions against Bates or any of the other officials after the event. Wilder has even claimed that after the vicious knockdown, he took it easy on his rival through the later rounds in order to avoid permanent damage.

There was general uproar across social media after Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora’s showdown on Saturday night, particularly from the American audience. The former world champion did win a split decision, but seemed to do it against all odds given a lopsided officiating performance.

After scoring his eighth round knockdown he had a point deducted, and Chisora was given every chance to make it to the final bell on home soil. And Wilder called for referee Mark Bates to be banned after the fact telling media including Bloody Elbow that he was hit in the back of the head 10-12 times.

Anthony Joshua is willing to put his money-spinning clash with Tyson Fury at risk by facing Deontay Wilder this summer.

Joshua watched Wilder edge out Derek Chisora on Saturday night in his first public appearance since he was involved in a tragic car crash last December. The former heavyweight world champion has been recuperating since the smash which killed his close friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.

But Joshua is now back in training and has pencilled in his return for July. And after witnessing Wilder drop Chisora en route to a split-decision points victory, the Brit is ready to finally settle their long-running rivalry. The pair held talks in 2018 when they both held versions of the world championship but a $50million deal collapsed.Anthony Joshua

And contracts were signed in 2023 for a two-fight dust-up only for Wilder to lose to Joseph Parker to leave the plan in ruins. The American crossed paths with Joshua as he left the ring on Saturday and demanded: “Now let’s get it on”. At 40, Wilder is past the peak of his devastating powers and was unable to knock out Chisora in the Brit’s farewell fight.

Anthony Joshua

He will also undergo scans on his right hand amid fears he fractured it during his 45th career victory. But should he and Joshua strike a deal, Wilder still possesses the power to wreck the long-awaited Battle of Britain. Fury will end his 16-month hiatus from the ring on Saturday night against Arslanbek Makhmudov with Joshua expected to be in attendance.
